The course focuses on violence towards children and youth; aetiology, phenomena, prevention, interventions, theory and policy. Equal attention is given to all age groups of children and youth. Children experience violence before they are born, soon afterwards and throughout childhood. It is omnipresent: we find it in the family, at school, in the streets, media and in relationships. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child will be an overarching principle for the course, and will be reflected in the presentations. Relevant articles in the Convention will be examined. We plan to explore violence against children and youth at all levels in society, through lectures and discussions in small groups and in plenary.
