Thanks to the donation of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) that provided financial support for organising the IUC Practical Course on Bioinformatics for the Bench Biologists that was held from 3 to 8 September 2012, the IUC has renewed its computer lab. Computers were provided for the mentioned course and remain at the IUC for other IUC participants, while the IUC governance hopes that they again will be used for the future FEBS programmes. Special thanks go to Prof. Kristijan Vlahoviček from Faculty of Science of University of Zagreb, the course director of the programme for securing this valuable donation.
The FEBS 2012 Practical Course brought together the experience of experts in the field of bioinformatics and training with early-stage researchers who have no formal bioinformatics training but rely on using bioinformatics resources and tools. Covering major research fields the course combined teaching some of the general concepts that are important for understanding how to make the most of data with hands-on experience using databases, through a range of widely applicable case studies.
