Course description:

The science field of nuclear physics, and the research area of short-lived exotic nuclei in particular, will enter a new era with the new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) which is currently being build at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany. After years of development and construction, the so-called FAIR phase-0 experimental program will be conducted in 2018/2019, using the infrastructure of GSI. A new experimental setup for measurements of reactions with nuclei far from stability (Reactions with Relativistic Radioactive Beams – R3B) will be commissioned and operational for experiments.

Participants in the workshop will present the current status of the field and the experimental setup, and discuss future activities with emphasis on the experiments in 2018/2019. More than 50 experts from internationally recognized institutes and universities from more than 10 countries are expected to participate in the workshop.
